Presenter Preparation Information

As an accepted Medicine X | ED 2017 presenter, you are amongst a cohort of leading thinkers across a diverse set of disciplines and backgrounds.

Below you will find general content guidelines for preparing your presentation for the Medicine X global and in-person audience, as well as specific instructions based on presentation format.

*Please note that if we have reached out to you to notify you of main stage attendance additional details will be provided regarding preparing to speak on the plenary stage.

General Content Guidelines

1. Dream big. Reveal something never seen before. Do something the audience will remember forever. Share an idea that could change the world.

2. Show us the real you. Some of the most impactful speakers we have hosted on our stage had shared vulnerabilities, personal triumphs and challenges.

3. Make the complex plain. Don’t speak in abstractions. Give examples. Tell stories. Be specific. Only good science please.

4. No selling from the stage. Do not pitch your products or services or ask for funding from the stage. Please no calls to action to “visit our office” or “website.”

6. Comment and engage. Feel free to comment and engage with others speakers’ talks in your own presentation. Controversy energizes.  Enthusiastic endorsement is powerful.

8. Clarity and structure. Every point within a talk should serve the purpose of proving the talk’s main idea and its importance. Make sure these points will be understood by the audience, and there’s a clear explanation as to why they matter and are relevant.

9. Brevity. End your talk on time.

We highly suggest that you revise your talk at least once before your presentation as well as rehearse.
