Description

The current model of medical education and practice focuses on the acquisition and application of physiological-based concepts and technical skills that treat the human organism.  This model focuses on academic skills and traditional intellect. There is little or no formal training, assessment, or medical practice knowledge regarding emotional awareness.

Emotional Intelligence concepts have been applied in many corporations and also in multiple primary and secondary education systems.  Numerous studies have shown that business leaders and managers with high emotional intelligence have greater customer satisfaction, have less employee turnover, and experience a significant increase in profitability.  These business leaders are affected positively both individually and collectively and have increased personal and professional growth.  When social and emotional learning programs have been taught and applied in schools and educational organizations, studies have shown increased academic performance.  These programs have been strongly linked to children avoiding risk behaviors, staying in school, and improved health, happiness, and life success.

This presentation will discuss: 1. A system utilizing social media and mobile information technology to disseminate Emotional Intelligence training and standardized testing in the field of medicine. 2. Providing a platform in which health professionals can easily assimilate modules of information that can positively impact their ability to effectively communicate with patients in all facets of health care.
