Change will not come from within - how the weight of two industries are holding back our health

Abstract

The Situation:

The quality of health care is not solely placed on the shoulders of physicians. Many people stop
seeking necessary treatment when their benefits run out. Many people miss out on treatment or preventative health services because they cannot afford it or do not realize their health plans cover it. The health care system was established for the benefits of the people - but it often provides more headache, paperwork and debt than should be necessary. One critical element of this headache is the current insurance model.

The Future:

We’re seeing many new industry players entering the market to disrupt this rigid insurance model. One of reactive v.s. preventative health; of resistance to claims v.s. Encouragement.

If we could recreate the insurance model, how would we do it?

This session will explore the different ways to “treat” the century-old insurance model to bring behavioural health and wellness to the forefront. Discover how technology advancements like AI and Machine Learning can support a healthier society and enable a new model for your health benefits that works the way the medical industry intended. One that empowers patients to be active participants in their own care.

Specifically, this session will discuss:
- The changing nature of health care such as the prevalence of mental health or digital services.
- The need for health insurance and improved access to health care among different demographics.
- The disproportionate coverage available to small business vs. enterprise.
- The growing urgency for employers to recognize their role in people’s health.
- The rising costs of health care.
