About Me
Mila is a tireless advocate for more and better diabetes education for the Hispanic community. Through her renowned blog, strong presence in social networks and participation in speaking engagements, Mila provides support, education, and empowerment for people touched by diabetes to take an active role in managing their health. In July 2011, Mila began writing her blog, Jaime, mi dulce guerrero, five years after Jaime, her youngest son, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of three years. Recognized as a “Diabetes Leader” by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), and as a Top Influential Latina Blogger by LATISM (Latinos in Social Media) on health issues in the United States. She participates actively in several media channels providing educational and supportive messages to Hispanic families. Mila received the Community Champion award at Phrma Hope and Research Awards. Mila is the Director of Communities at Diabetes Hands Foundation (DHF). One of the most important programs of DHF is EsTuDiabetes, an online community that provides information and support for people touched by diabetes. She is a member of the Board of Directors of Children with Diabetes, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing education and support to families living with type 1 diabetes, Mila is also part of Transitions Optical’s Diversity Advisory Board and a Huffington Post blogger. Mila lives in Orlando, FL with her husband Jimmy and enjoys being Gabriel, Diego and Jaime’s baseball mom.
