Paying attention to the details

 In Program Development

One of my favorite quotes, which is attributed to Charles Eames, goes something like this: “The details are not the details. They make the design.”

As I moved from graduate school at Stanford to my current role as Internet & Social Media Strategist at Stanford University School of Medicine, I’ve always worked hard on the details. I’ve never thought they are subsidiary issues to be brushed away; instead, I think they are the little touch points that make your work special.

As Director of Program Outreach for Medicine X, I will be doing three things: (1) working with Larry Chu to develop programming concepts that will facilitate engaging conversations about technology and medicine; (2) finding great speakers to help spark those conversations; and (3) making sure you all know what we’re doing with Medicine X. And, as I do those things, you can be sure I’ll be toiling away on the details – making sure we have the best speakers, the best discussion themes – so that, in the end, you’ll be able to come to Medicine X next year and be amazed.

If you have any thoughts about how we can make Medicine X great, or even if you’d like to nominate a speaker, please give us a shout.
